Additional explanation about the exhibition

The exhibition is composed of 4 vinyl records and 16 paintings.
These 4 vinyl records form the basis of the exhibition on which the artworks are inspired:

  • Santana – Amigos
  • La Toya Jackson – La Toya
  • Peter Koelewijn and his Rockets – Tutti Frutti
  • Q65 – Revolution

How did the exhibition come about?

Claire: “It always starts with choosing colors and the rest follows automatically. Rian Kraan and I selected vinyl records together and I started making matching paintings. We selected these vinyl records primarily based on color and style variation. We wanted a combination of colorful records and different genres. I think that turned out well.”

From first record to first work of art

The record Q65, Revolution is a special record for Rian. It is the first record he bought in 1966. This record is the centerpiece of the exhibition. Claire has started making the artworks to match this record.

Jackson's album La Toya is a record with special meaning for Claire. Claire: “This record is from the year I was born, 1988. The life of La Toya Jackson inspired me to create the works of art. She has actually lived her entire life in the shadow of her family's glamor. She never really became famous herself. I wanted to convey this in the works of art I have created.”

The record covers and the music on the record inspired Claire while painting the artworks. Claire: “The record covers themselves are actually also a work of art. I was inspired to create the works of art by the record cover but also by the music. When I make a painting I always start with a color and the rest follows automatically. Colors have a power, a power to evoke a feeling and tell a story. Colors allow you to communicate in a way that words cannot convey. The combination of art and music appeals to me. Music can make you dream away and immerse yourself more deeply in a work of art. The nice thing about abstract art is that everyone sees something different in it. You also have that with music. Everyone has their own experience of music and art, together they form an even richer experience.

Both the plates and the works of art are for sale.
